Coshocton, Ohio

When adults or children are diagnosed with a medical condition involving the critical areas of the ears, nose, or throat or the surrounding structures of the health and neck, it takes a physician specially trained in otolaryngology to provide specialized medical care. Coshocton Hospital is proud to maintain that specialty with Raymond Votypka, MD, board certified in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

The specialty of otolaryngology involves the medical and surgical management and treatment of diseases and disorders of the ears, nose and throat (ENT) and the related structures of the head and neck, a specialty commonly referred to as an ENT physician. In addition to treating diseases and disorders of the ears, nose and throat, Dr. Votypka is specially trained to diagnose and manage diseases or conditions of the sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity and upper pharynx (mouth and throat) as well as the structures of the neck and face in both adults and children.

What Does an ENT Specialist Treat?

Ears – Dr. Votypka is specially trained to treat hearing loss resulting from a medical disorder. He provides both medical and surgical treatment for hearing disorders, ear infections, balance disorder, tinnitus (ear noise), nerve pain and facial and cranial nerve disorders. He is also specially trained to manage congenital disorders of the inner and outer ear.

Nose – Care of the nasal cavity and sinuses to manage breathing, chronic sinusitis, allergies or conditions that affect the sense of smell.

Throat – The throat is a vital component in speech as well as in eating, swallowing and digesting food. Dr. Votypka has the expertise to manage diseases of the larynx, the esophagus and other voice and swallowing disorders.  He further specializes in the use of coblation technology to perform tonsillectomy procedures using electrocautery. This advanced technology uses radiofrequency-generated energy to safely and quickly remove the tonsils without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. This process results in less post-operative discomfort and a quicker recovery over traditional tonsillectomy techniques.

Head and Neck – The structures of the head and neck include the nerves that control sight, hearing and smell as well as the nerves and structure of the face. As an otolaryngologist, Dr. Votypka is trained to identify and treat infectious diseases, benign and malignant tumors, facial trauma and deformities of the face.

Dr. Votypka provides the level of otolaryngology care seldom seen outside a large metropolitan area. His services through the Coshocton Hospital ENT Clinic are available with a referral from your physician.
